The Uniform Law Commission (ULC) will convene in Chicago, Illinois, for its 135th Annual Meeting, from July 10-16, 2026. The ULC is a national law group comprising members from every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It drafts model and uniform state laws in areas in which national uniformity is desirable and practical. Commissioners from across the United States will gather in Chicago to debate and develop new uniform state laws.
Drafts which will be debated at the meeting are posted online at the ULC website at www.uniformlaws.org. Four new acts are scheduled for completion at this summer's annual meeting:
* Occupational Licenses of Servicemembers and Military Spouses Act
* Uniform Transfers to Minors Act
* State Indian Child Welfare Act
* Conflict of Laws in Trusts and Estates Act
Three additional acts will be debated:
* Commercial Financial Disclosure Act
* Child Digital Entertainers Act
* Deed Fraud Act
During the meeting, commissioners will read each draft act line by line, and then debate, amend, and vote on those acts. The ULC Annual Meeting represents the culmination of years of work by drafting committees addressing emerging legal challenges.
About the Uniform Law Commission
The Uniform Law Commission provides states with balanced, well-conceived, and carefully drafted legislation that brings clarity, consistency, and stability to critical areas of state statutory law. Established in 1892, the ULC is the nation's oldest state governmental organization devoted to the improvement of state law through the development of uniform and model legislation.
The ULC, now in its 135th year, comprises more than 350 practicing lawyers, governmental lawyers, judges, law professors, and lawyer-legislators from every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Commissioners are appointed by their states to draft and promote enactment of uniform laws that are designed to solve problems common to all the states.
After receiving the ULC's seal of approval, a uniform or model act is officially promulgated for consideration by the states, and legislatures are urged to adopt it. The ULC has been responsible for some of the nation's most influential state laws, including the Uniform Commercial Code, the Uniform Probate Code, the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act, and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act. Acts drafted by the ULC have been enacted thousands of times across the country and continue to provide states with high-quality legislative solutions to complex legal issues.
